Aliases in svn-auths file

Our company is at SVN 1.4, which does not yet allow for aliases in the svn-auths file.  Our user names are numeric and therefore it's very difficult to view the SVN log, or post-commit emails, and actually know WHO last changed a file.

The question is, when we migrate to SVN 1.5 (soon, I hope) and employ aliases in the svn-auth file, is there a way to get the other parts of SVN (which report on user identities) to use the friendly alias rather than the cryptic "official" user name?

Thanks in advance.
