RE: TortoiseSVN context menus refuse to work

I've tried uninstalling, rebooting, installing, rebooting at least three or
four times without any luck. The end result is the same - overlays only, no
context menus.

Maybe the installation wasn't really successful?
Try this:
* uninstall TSVN
* check that no entry for TSVN shows up in the software panel
* reboot
* instal the new version again
