Should I downgrade to 1.4?

My Subversion repo runs on Debian etch (stable) which won't ever see
1.5 officially though I believe a backport may eventually come.
Assuming otherwise though, should I stay at Tortoise 1.4? Right now I
am at 1.5.2 and I cannot perform a merge of a branch and trunk because
it complains that the server does not support the 'mergeinfo' feature
(as it is still at 1.4). Seems the Tortoise 1.5 client doesn't play
nice with a 1.4 server or am I missing something?
