Unable to diff historical revisions if file has been deleted later

Just came back from a week at the beach, and I am trying to catch up
with my co-workers.

1) Opened up a repo browser, then did a "Show log" at the root level of
my repository.
2) Noticed an interesting change between rev 8181 and 8182, so I
higlighted both, right clicked and selected "Compare revisions".
3) Observed a list of changed files, double clicked one of them and was
greeted with the error
"File not found: revision 8194, path '/path/name/filename.cpp'"

Well, the message itself is not a big surprise as filename.cpp was
removed at rev 8187. What is puzzling is that we even care about the
state of rev 8194 (the current HEAD revision) since we are diffing
historical versions prior to the deletion.

Running Tortoise SVN 1.5.2 Build 13595 and the server is
CollabNetSubversion-server-1.5.0-23.win32.exe

Should I be puzzled or have I just breathed in too much salt air over
the last week?
