Can I work on my SVN tree with SVN unaware tools?

Hello,
Since TortoiseSVN integrates with explorer I was wondering if it
automatically tracks the changes to the working copy and updates the
info within the ".SVN" directories? I need this because I want to use
various tools which do not have SVN integration to move and change
both files and directories in my working copy. I want to even go in
and make changes by hand directly with explorer and have them tracked
propertly. Currently I think such activities will leave my working
copy in a corrupted state :( Am I right?
So I was hoping that TortoiseSVN manages to take over all file
operations within the working copy and thus free the other tools from
the responsibility to maintain the data within the ".SVN" directories
by themselfs.

Cheers,
Todor
