You can always install extensions in Firefox. They're installed to
your profile, which you should always have full control over.

Gmail already does this. Either go to the label (from the list on the
left) and then do your search, or just type "label:LABELNAME
searchterms" in the search box. If you're already assigning labels to
your mailing list traffic, this will restrict the search just to that
one label.
