How do I undo a checkout?

I am new to this so bear with me :)

I am getting ready to check-in my first project to an existing repository that I
am using. I used the client to check out a project which landed in the wrong
place on my machine than where I intended it to go. So I've been trying to undo
this and digging myself deeper I think.

The project that I checked out didn't have any code in it, so no sweat there.

I first deleted everything under the directory where I checked stuff into.
Obviously, tortise still remembers that it has stuff checked out in here.

I then uninstalled tortise hoping it would "forget" but when I installed back
the lil red stop sign icon is gone off the top level folder but tortise still
remembers.

I would like to make both sides - the client and repository - to undo this
checkout. How do i do that? :(

Thanks, Roupen N.
