I have "the slowdown" on 1.4.3 as well, and I upgraded one of my
machines, and it hasn't gotten any better. I don't think tortoise was
this slow when I first installed it, but I might be making that up.
I actually uninstalled Tortoise for a while, since I am used to
command line svn on Linux anyway, but there are a handful of things that
are pretty nice in tortoise, so I put it back.
I don't know if Microsoft changed something in explorer, but
definitely tortoise exploits that change. (though I always turn the
context menu of winzip off, since that also causes slow downs)

Is there anything to be looked at in Tortoise to see where the
slowdown is occurring? There was some talk a month or two ago that said
basically there isn't much code that gets executed, so there wouldn't be
anything to optimize, or something like that.
