hangs on "Sending content" committing at directory level but not when committing single files at a time

This is the first time I've used TortoiseSVN (1.4.3) but I used to do this w/ WinCVS w/o problems. I can't tell if this is a repo issue, a TortoiseSVN issue, or a VPN issue (doubt it's VPN since I checked out w/o problems).

When I commit a directory, the dialog pops up with 8 "Adding" lines and only 6 "Sending content" lines. At this point, it's stuck so I have to click the X at the top to stop it (the Cancel button doesn't work).
I can commit a file at a time w/o problems (haven't tried more than that), however I'd like to be able to commit at the project level so all my changes are put into svn as a single transaction.

Anyone ever see this? I did a search on the site and google, but couldn't find anything like this...

 thanks,

 ken
