If you have a proxy server which requires authentication, then most
likely that authentication was tried over and over again until
Subversion gave up. Can't help you with configuring your proxy...

Sorry, what? Only port 80 and you're trying an ssl connection?
SSL goes over port 443 - I think that's the reason for your problem.
