This may be getting a little borderline off-topic, but...

What will that do to my current installation of Visual Studio 6.0?

Also the build.txt file in the TSVN source tree says that VC++.NET
Express is "only free for a limited period". What does that
mean? Is it some kind of a 30-day trial that times out and stops
working after the trial period?

The link you provided
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/visualc/) seems to be
silent on that topic (no big surprise there...).
