Cannot check out/update but can browse repo and import with SSH

I'm having trouble getting TortoiseSVN (v1.4.1.7992) on Windows XP SP2
working with a RedHat server (svn version 1.4.2-1).

When I check out or update I get either a "Unable to write to standard
output (stderr)" with tortoiseplink or just an open-then-closed command
window with plink (v0.58). I then get the "Connection closed unexpectedly"
error in the TortoiseSVN windows in either case.

I have the public/private keys set up properly. For example, from my
Windows command prompt:
>plink garrettsmith.net "which svnserve"
/usr/bin/svnserve

>tortoiseplink garrettsmith.net "which svnserve"

/usr/bin/svnserve

I am also able to connect using my private key with PuTTY -- it doesn't
prompt me for a password.

I was able to import files without a problem. The repo-browser also works
fine; I can expand the tree and see the files I have imported into the
repository.

I don't want to access my repository via http.

Garrett
