Low Performances on Big Directories

I have an SVN server with a Suse 9.3 distribution and Subversion 1.4.2.
In the SVN repository, I have a directory with about 5 000 files.

I have installed, on the same computer, TortoiseSVN 1.4.1 and Subcommander 1.2.2.

And then I have tested :

* Time to dislay the big directory in the repo-browser :
- Tortoise : 87 seconds ;
- Subcommander : 8 seconds.

* Time to display a log graph (only 8 revisions) :
- Tortoise : 100 seconds ;
- Subcommander : 8 seconds.

How can we explain these differences ?
What must I do to have better performance with TortoiseSVN ?

Thanks.

Krill
