Check-out/update symbolic links (symlinks) on Linux w-c

We use TortoiseSVN (Windows) to manipulate working-copies on Linux servers, shared over Windows filesharing. This mostly seems to
work fine (so long as we use a version of TortoiseSVN that incorporates the same version of the SVN client libraries as the
command-line client on the server - v1.3). However, when we check-out or update symbolic links (symlinks) from the repository using
TortoiseSVN, only simple text files are created within the (Linux) file-system. Is there a way to make this work? (Perhaps there is
some sort of commonly used post-check-out script which could be applied.)

Cheers
JamesR
