I can't see why it would -- using svn:// _without_ tunnelling
certainly preserves author information (by which I mean: each revision
gets an svn:author property whose value is comitter's name). I can't
imagine why that would change just because the network traffic was
tunnelled; svn is not (and in fact, can not be) aware of the
tunnelling.

Perhaps if you described precisely what you're doing and seeing, we
can help.
