local working copy save

Hi

devs are asking me how to backup work they doesn't commit (because it's
not in a project branch, because it's not ready and so forth).
- full backup seems out of question. if the dev have multiple working
copy, it could makes a lot of space
- a script with TortoiseProc.exe /command:createpatch and backup the
patch (not sure what it will do with binary ...)
- a commit of intermediary work but it depends on the way dev work
(commit of non-working code or partial allowed or not)

i think best options would be the second. binary backup is not
compulsory but would be useful.
a way to list binary new file on windows ?

how do you backup non-commited work ?

thanks
Regards
