projects in shared server without subversion (right forum, I guess)

(I already posted this in subversion users forum but I think It was the wrong
place)

Scenario:

Main project files are in a shared server without subversion (and it won't
be installed). To keep track of changes in projects this is what I do:

I create a local repository. Then I import the project I need from the
shared server and I create a working copy of the project from my local
repository.

What I need to do now is to re-import the project from the shared server to
my local repository to see if any changes have been made to it before I put
back the local working copy I was coding it.

I hope you get the point and you tell me the way to go with this.

Thank you.
