commit failed with no reason

I edited some files, then tried to commit and I get an error "commit
failed", but there is no reason for the failure. I tried doing a clean but
that didn't work. I removed all files, did an update, changed one file, and
I get the same error again.

Does anyone know how to fix this, or what might be causing it?
