on Win7, the taskbar icon already shows a green progress bar.
Once it's finished, the bar is gone and the normal icon is shown. But
while it is running, you can see the green bar, clearly indicating an
ongoing operation.
If an error occurs, the taskbar icon changes to a red color.

I think that this should be enough of an indicator.
