They don't generally change quite as randomly as you describe. There
is sometimes a delay in fetching the status for a large WC, or a busy
CPU. Normally it starts out green if the status is unknown and changes
to red when changes are detected. If it goes from red to green for no
particular reason then something is wrong and you will need to give us
more detail about your working copy.
