But what should be done when multiple versioned and unversioned
folders are selected and you select 'check out...'?!?

For commands that operate on a working copy, I can imagine that
silently ignoring a non-versioned folder is OK, but for the commands
that operate on a non-versioned folder it is not so straightforward.
