As far as I get it, it is impossible to use Windows keystore and smartcard in
current implementation? It means CAPI is required to enable certificate sources
other than a file?

I would prefer to be able to use certificates I keep in my keystore anyway. I
would not replace the current implementation but extend it.

Second that. What will be the problem? Why not enable users to use Windows
keystore and smartcards?

In my servers I use authentication and authorization based *exclusively on
client certificates* (no user login/password). My users need to install
certificates in Windows store anyway, thus being able to use it would only add
to usability and provide consistency.

With such a configuration, using smartcards pushes the security even further and
would be a highly appreciated feature.
