It's not the wrong word at all, you're probably just thinking of its
application differently than I am. Think of the filter as an algorithm that
omits (filters) any entries in the commit log that do not match some
specified precondition. The remaining qualified entries are then given the
CHECKED state. Note that this has nothing to do with things being hidden.
Pattern & Filter can mean the same thing here, so it doesn't really matter
which you use so long as it is consistent.
