I tried this on yesterdays nightly, and it works beautifully! Great job!

I might add:
"revision 713, 772 and 889"
and then the slightly more complex:
"revision range 707-922" ;-)

I second that. A solution like (2) would also give the user the flexibility to make the links work as intended no matter what language or other convention used for denoting revisions in plain text in log messages.
