I think the current one tries to do too much. It's a slider, two range
controls and a button to toggle between some slider values. When all
most users ever actually need is quickly selecting 0, 127, 255 and
sometimes dragging the slider around because observing blending images
is fun :)

How about getting rid of the range controls, and making a smaller
slider that can be dragged around, snap to 0, 127, 255 and, uhm,
something (not sure what, maybe the button like now) to toggle between
0 and 255? Looks like the author of original patch feels that the
