Not quite correct: 1.4 *only* has libsvn_ra_neon. TSVN was not linked
against libsvn_ra_serf in the 1.4.x releases.
But the feature that you can configure the auth mechanisms is only
available in the 1.5 nightly builds.

The working copy format has changed. Which means once you do something
with a TSVN nightly build on your working copy, you can't use that
working copy anymore with older clients.
