...instead of rebooting, try the following:
- launch the windows task manager
- kill the "explorer" process
- "File" - "New Task (Run...)" - "explorer" - OK

This always worked for me(I don't even need to uninstall the previous
version, at least not explicitly)

This is a known problem with the current nightly.

And this is the known solution ;-) I don't know if we are any closer to
understanding why it happens yet, but for now each time you install the
nightly you have to uninstall the previous version first.
