Yes, but in that same window, the context menu on files and folders shows
nice icons...?!?

So there is a difference between the way the context menu for the background
is drawn and the way it is drawn for files with the following effect:

with file tree view: file context menu OK, background context menu nice
icons but no text

without file tree view: file context menu OK, background context menu ugly
icons with text
