About a meaningful limitation of authors individually listed in the charts:

Except when using extremely high resolutions, the legend is not displayed
for more than 40 authors anyway. For normal resolutions the limit is
reached at about 25-30 authors. Also, above 40 authors the colouring
becomes nearly indistinguishable. For all practical purposes, showing more
than 40 authors is IMHO useless.

Suggestion: independent of the threshold setting, we can impose an author
limit of about 40 authors and even if more are above the threshold, they
will be shown as others. This will solve the UI resource problem and keep
the charts readible.

Alternatively the slider at the bottom could be modified to indicate the
numbers of authors to be shown individually, ranging from 1 to 40 with the
default on 20 or so.

What do you say?
