Can you please specify what you mean with "hangs"? Does it use all
available CPU time? Or is it idle but the overlays don't change?

If it would really 'hang', then you wouldn't be able to use the explorer
anymore: the explorer itself would appear to not react because it would
have to wait for the cache to return information, which it wouldn't if
it really hang.
