I agree completely.
After all, what would you think if e.g. Word would ask you "do you
REALLY want to save that file" every time you hit Ctrl-S or the save button?
You start the COMMIT dialog because you want something to commit.
There's no reason to start that dialog without that intention.
And it's not as if some data will be lost if you commit accidentally. If
that would be the case, then yes a confirmation might have to be
considered. But you won't lose any data, therefore a confirmation would
only be annoying.

You have to consider that too many confirmation dialogs will only numb
the users. After some time, users then will always click "OK" without
reading the dialog (that's what happened with those many many security
warnings every time you visit a website which doesn't have a ssl
certificate signed by an institution approved by MS - people simply
ignore those nowadays).
