Yes, I know that workarounds exist. We considered them, but found them
even more cumbersome then the method we use.
You propose to introduce a whole new build system (NAnt). We also
considered implementing support for overriding config files -- which
solves the problem even better.
However, all this adds complexity for application code to circumvent
the limitation of version control system, which is IMHO the wrong way
;-)
OTOH, now that the client-side hooks are implemented, perhaps I can
devise an post-update configuration merger. Hmmmm...
