With standard Windows tools - you don't. You'd have to write a disk
driver to accomplish completely transparently (see the URL I posted).

There is a multitude of ways of accomplishing transparency, though
(shell folders come to mind as well - implemented by, e.g. Pixvue, a
photo software). Alas, the most "compatible" way remains

And transparency does not equate usefulness - see my comments regarding
annotations (or, more generally, meta data) earlier.

What the original poster seems to be interested in is the functionality
of ClearCase implemented through Subversion libraries :-)
