Great, I think something like this would be invaluable for lazy / novice users.

Rolling out TSVN to non-technical office staff has been a real eye-opener.
Like today, I discovered someone was agressively locking files, to prevent
the possibility of others editing them (for as access control, not edit
serialization).

It never even occured to me that locks would be used in that way!!
