Good for you :) I am not that fortunate, I see the thicker line long
before I see the blinking caret.

Then what is the thicker border supposed to indicate? In most of the
dialogs I have encountered, the thicker border means "This happens
when you hit ENTER".

Visual Studio gives a good example:

1. Select Debug - Processes...
2. The Attach... button has a thicker line. Select a process and hit
ENTER. The Attach... button does not have the focus, but is still
invoked.
3. The remaining dialogs follow the same pattern, but when a process
is selected, the default button change to Close.
