The gif patent could have been revoked because of prior art. The jpeg
patent is more than questionable because it's unlawful to work with a
standard committee and then later claim patents on it, and mp3 was
always patented but to be used fee free if the app using it was free too.

Reverted the whole thing in revision 5882.
