Well, for a non-technical user, it's confusing. Do I select back to the entry I want to revert to? or do I select back to the entry before the one I want to revert to? (off the top of my head, I don't even know the answer to this).

Having a simple menu option that makes a previous revision the HEAD solves this and is much easier to understand and less error prone.

Please understand that sometimes we're dealing with people that doing not understand the underlying concepts of VC. They are simply committing changes and want to revert back. The goal of any good UI is to make things simple to understand and discover.
