I don't know of a better way. But if you have VS.NET2005, I can give you
commit access to the TSVN repository. That would mean you could work
directly on trunk. Of course, I wouldn't make the new feature visible
(i.e. no context menu entry) until it's stable, and of course not for
the 1.3 release yet.

If you haven't committed in between, then the revision number gathered
with SubWCRev is the same, and then the msi doesn't recognize that
you're updating to another (newer) version. You will then also see
multiple entries in the installed-programs dialog.
