We are a company of 100+ developers using TortoiseSVN on Windows talking
to several repositories (using fsfs) on a Linux server. No problems there.

The BDB version you see in the about box of TortoiseSVN is the version
of BDB used to compile the Subversion libraries used in TortoiseSVN.
That has nothing to do with contacting a remote repository.
