Do what it says in the manual and throw away notepad :-)

Seriously, there are *much* better alternatives. After having exactly
this problem, I installed Notepad2 which is designed specifically as a
small-footprint (fast loading) replacement for notepad. Get it for free
from <http://www.flos-freeware.ch/notepad2.html>
