Yes there is. SVN itself refers to it as a checkout. You have to use the
terminology of the tool you're using.

By 'pure SVN' mode you seem to mean 'my ideal VCS' mode. We generally
use the same terms as SVN, otherwise it gets very confusing if you are
also using the CLI.
