And search-as-you-type is *very* convenient. You would not type unless
you intended to search, so a search button is redundant. You know a
search is in effect because the red X icon shows. Also you have the
visible results (your list of revisions changes).

Thus, this is really a task for a svnstats (a la cvstats) project, that
runs at 2am locally on the repo server and spits results to a web site.
