Shouldn't matter (only if you'd be using file:/// I'd be very worried ;))

"unknown hostname" means that Subversion wasn't able to resolve the
hostname, i.e. it's a DNS problem.
And that again means that your network setup is wrong (or you're having
other DNS problems).
