I can't believe it but you are right. It's not in our FAQ or
Subversion's, even though it is frequently asked. There are entries in
both about changing case in filenames, which is related. The short
answer is that subversion is case sensitive, and is designed to work
with case-sensitive file systems. That is not going to change, and
Windows users just have to be aware. If you use a Windows (or other case
insensitive) client anywhere in your system, don't commit files which
differ only on case. There is a sample hook script somewhere which you
can install to prevent this happening.
