There's another strange effect here. If you have the log viewer open,
then bring another window to the front, then give focus back to the log
viewer, you get a bit of the background window left behind. In the
attached screenshot I did this with OE. What you can see is part of the
dev@tortoisesvn email address which happened to be showing in the email
client before I gave focus back to the log dialog.

It might make more sense if the magnifying glass was to the left of the
edit control rather than inside it.

Another behaviour I don't understand is that if I left click on the
magnifier, then press ESC, none of the menu items is checked and I get a
shortened list of revisions shown. It is not obvious what the filter is
doing in that case.

I can't see that either.

Quick check - do you strip leading and trailing spaces from the
svn:needs-lock property? If it has a value of space, does that count as
true or false?

Using build 3031 on Win2K.
