Well, what should Subversion do? If a file is readonly and an update
should change that file, it can't. So it *has* to throw an error.

And Molle, please change your tone here. It's not very nice to call
something 'broken by design' if you don't understand why something is as
it is. You can be assured that the Subversion devs put a lot of thought
in what and how they do things.
