I have a feeling this is something that Will introduced deliberately. I
don't remember the details, but for most situations it is much more
efficient to get the status of the parent folder than to get each file
individually. That said, maybe doing that on a single file right-click
may not be ideal behaviour, but as we only respond to requests from the
shell, we probably can't tell what the source of that request was.

I am fairly certain that the external cache is still not enabled by
default in the nightly, so the OP will see no improvement unless he
enables it using regedit.
