We could (*shudder*) provide an option in the settings dialog to
switch between the old and the new cache. That way people not
satisfied with the new cache can switch back easily.

It _did_ solve a perf problem: with this unchecked, the folder status
wasn't even fetched - if the folder had an .svn folder in it the
'normal' overlay was shown, otherwise no overlay at all.

So, about removing those settings: I'm all for it, but not just right
now! When we definitely switch to the new cache and completely get rid
of the old one, _then_ we can get rid of those options too, but not
before. As long as people want/can switch back to the old cache, we
need those options.

These options I like to keep, even with the new cache. Because you
might have mapped a network folder into a normal folder (e.g.
C:\mynetworkfolder) and since that's a slow one you want to exclude
it.
Remember: Win2k/XP can not only map folders to drives, but also can
link a folder inside another folder (volumes).

Right - that's another reason too.
