Sure. The current specs won't go away. The only thing I'd like to mark
as deprecated is the bugtraq:number property which would be replaced
with a regex to check.

I've just checked: they use two regex: one for the whole string and then
another to extract the bug ID (ticket number for them) from that string.
So they're basically doing it the second way I proposed.

It would. I tried it with the Subversion project already, and it works
there very well ;)
