Ok, since you asked about my personal opinion here: I don't like that.
Because if you don't show an overlay at all, then that looks like the
folder is unversioned. So I couldn't tell immediately the versioned from
the unversioned folders, which is something very important to me.

If there were more overlay slots available, then I'd say we create a new
overlay indicating 'status not completely fetched yet'. But I guess we
can't do that...
